Last day of our Against Week. We've tried to fight our painting instinct going against the 1.) construction from value relationships, 2.) unity in color and 3.) form and structure. Beyond our ability/inability to be combative, it's been painfully clear that while the willingness to unlearn may be there, the capacity to begin a purging process is incredibly more complex. Today we revert to Monday's essence where simplicity was key. For our final painting we try to deal with a complex subject matter by surrendering control. No brushes for this one, just palette knives and a little cameo from the tip of the brush handle (glorified "stick"). I saw a glimpse, a very, veeeery tiny window into my sought-after Dubuffet-ness. Hopefully a tiny crack has appeared that will enable me to access future possibilities.
