As 2026 approaches, El Paso families are bracing for potential increases in utility bills, with three major providers proposing rate hikes.

The Texas Gas Service is seeking a 27% increase, potentially adding $10 to $15 to monthly bills for residents.

The company says the increase is needed to cover service costs and maintain reliable service.

The Railroad Commission of Texas is expected to make a decision in January of 2026.

Meantime, El Paso Electric has filed a new rate case with the Public Utility Commission of Texas that is still under review.

The company's previous request for a $93 million increase would have raised the average residential bill by about $22 per month, but the El Paso City Council rejected that proposal earlier this year.

According to state filings, a proposal for a decision in the new case is expected Dec. 9, 2025 by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

El Paso Water is also considering a $10 monthly increase for the average customer, with a final decision in January and changes possibly starting in March.

El Paso Water explained the necessity of the increase, stating that their key priorities for funding is flood control, water supply growth, water and wastewater line replacements and other services.
