You Want to Raise Goats? Must Have Items Every Goat Owner Should Have On Hand

Описание к видео You Want to Raise Goats? Must Have Items Every Goat Owner Should Have On Hand

We put a video together that shows most of our medical and goat care items that we use on our farm. These are important items to have on hand to deal with many situations on a goat farm.

Hidden Heights Farm- First Aid Medical Kit every goat keeper should have on hand
Not all items listed below are shown in picture.
MEDICAL/EMERGENCY ITEMS
https://amzn.to/2WSzbDn Thermometer - it’s crucial to know when a goat is running a fever, especially a baby.

https://amzn.to/31aTRFX Blood stop powder - We use this when trimming hooves & we accidentally trim them to the quick. Don’t judge, we’re not perfect, it happens. Also used for disbudding if you disbud your kids.

https://amzn.to/2IupCl4/ Blu Kote Fungicidal. Antiseptic, Protective Wound dressing. Kills ringworm & fungus infections. Perfect to spray on wounds to prevent flies. Also used after disbudding
Vitamin B complex-awesome pick-me-up, helps with appetite and rallying a sick animal.

Pepto - great to have around for the runs and upset tummies.

Baking soda - In the case of bloat or other acidosis of the rumen, you’ll need this to restore balance.

Goat Nutri-drench-good all-round boost for a goat not feeling 100%. I often give a dose of this after kidding.
Iron -injectable iron. If you have an anemic animal, this will help them fight it and get back on their feet.

https://amzn.to/2Xveniv Probios paste-rumens need friendly bacteria to keep them running properly. This helps.
Iodine-spray, liquid or wipes. Doesn’t matter which one, just have it on hand.

Peroxide - I prefer the spray bottle

https://amzn.to/2XubRZV Wormers-ivermectin, Cydectin, Prohibit

Activated charcoal gel-in case one of them gets poisoned

https://amzn.to/31gii55 Selenium/vitamin E gel

https://amzn.to/2KymTcP Goat Copper Bolus-Adult & kid doses. We give this to our goats every 6 months.

Arnica-for pain, swelling bruises and other injuries.

https://amzn.to/2HYtI5H Co-flex bandages (Self-Adherent Cohesive Wrap Bandages)-we use this for stints to straighten legs out. Broken legs always happen at a weekend when the vet is closed. This stuff can keep things stable until you can get them in the next day, thus avoiding an out-of-hours monster-charge.

Gauze pads

https://amzn.to/2Xt0aCp Scalpel-disposable scalpel’s for abscess', minor procedures, etc.

Syringes-various syringes from a three cc to a thirty cc for shots and drenching.
Balling gun- for giving pills & copper bolus
Alcohol or Alcohol Wipes- use these to clean the tools that I may need to use in.
Hand Sanitizer
Rubber Gloves
Towels
Hoof trimmers
Castrating tool & rubber bands
Ear tag equipment?

KIDDING KIT in addition to the Medical Kit
Pritchard Nipples-These are awesome! They fit over the top of a 750ml soda bottle in case mama refuses/is unable to feed the kids and we need to intervene.
Soda bottles-clean & ready to go should we need to help feeding the babies.
Kid Colostrum-Powdered version for back-up. The best option is getting frozen colostrum from local goat contact but that is not always available.
Old Towels, rags, t-shirts or blankets-in case I need to take up residence in the kidding stall for a few hours.
Personal Lubricant or Vaseline-This is in case I need to “go in” and assist by turning a breech kid.
