My dwarf hamster Bijou shown at 1/8th speed running in her wheel and cage. You can actually see her using different gaits - analogous to a horse first trotting and then galloping at full speed.

Her wheel is a 20cm (8in) wheel and she is a very small campbell's dwarf - was probably the runt of the litter and is only about robo sized. As you can see she barely fits the wheel. Therefore, a 20cm / 8in wheel is definitely too small for a syrian (even if many info sites and forums recommend 20cm / 8in wheels for them) and most probably even too small for larger dwarfs. The cage is approx 120cm x 50cm (= ca 47in x 20in) but as you can see for an active hamster that's not large at all. The light is not infrared but simple red LED light. Most hamsters act totally naturally under red light - for them it's like a dusk simulation. Hamsters are actually rather crepuscular than nocturnal so it's perfectly normal for them to just act naturally.
