MIKE TYSON’S PUNCH-OUT!! (GAMEPLAY/ W COMMENTARY)

After last night’s match, I woke up this morning and knew exactly that this was the perfect time to play this game. Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out is a 1987 fighting game centered around boxing for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Punch-Out was an arcade game released in 1984 so when it was a big hit Nintendo decided to port it to the NES with one of the most popular boxers of all time, Mike Tyson. The arcade game’s protagonist was a green wired framed boxer. The reason why they made him that way was because you could see through him, meaning you can see where you’re hitting opponent, but when porting the arcade game, they could not recreate that feature due to the small hardware of the NES. This is were the idea of Little Mac came from so instead of making the playable character transparent, they decided to just make him small. Mike Tyson regrets agreeing to this deal with Nintendo because he got less than 1% out of Punch-Out’s revenue. However Mike Tyson’s Punch-out did not last because in 1990 Nintendo’s licensing for Mike Tyson ran out causing them to re-release the game calling it just Punch-Out and they replaced Mike Tyson with a new character called Mr Dream. Not to mention that Nintendo was embarrassed to say that they were associated with Mike Tyson when he was accused of sexual assault in 1992. Mike Tyson is considered to be the hardest boss in video game history, not even the real Mike Tyson could beat himself in this game! Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out is a great classic for the NES and I recommend it.
