On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the Synagogue Security Council of North America (SSCNA) in partnership with the United Jewish Security Alliance (UJSA) hosted a successful Shul Concealed Carry training and qualification event at Sharpshooters Range STL in St. Louis, MO.
The restricted, invitation-only training provided members of the local Jewish community with specialized instruction in safely and effectively carrying concealed firearms in synagogue settings. Beyond technical marksmanship, the SSCNA training emphasizes real-world scenarios reflective of the unique environment of Jewish communal life. This includes practical drills such as drawing and safely re-holstering a firearm while wearing formal Synagogue attire—such as a suit, Tallit, and Tefillin—adding layers of complexity that simulate actual conditions one may encounter during Shabbat or holiday services.
The Synagogue Security Council of North America's (SSCNA) Shul Carry Qualification Standard is designed to establish a recommended baseline of competency for individuals who carry firearms in Jewish institutions. The intent is to ensure that those entrusted with this responsibility are trained to a consistent and professional standard, prioritizing safety, control, and readiness. The ultimate goal is to foster a culture of responsibility, preparedness, and respect—empowering community members to protect their institutions with competence and confidence.
The live-fire training was led by SSCNA board members Anthony Levey, MA, former Police Academy Director and DHS Executive, alongside a lecture presentation from Rick Robertson, former SWAT Commander and current SWAT trainer. Their combined experience brought a high level of professionalism and tactical relevance to the instruction.
The program marked an important step in the continuing effort to build grassroots security capabilities within Jewish communities across North America. SSCNA and UJSA continue to offer resources and training opportunities focused on proactive, community-led preparedness.
