One of the most controversial aspects of season 5 of The Wire is the fact that The Greeks chose to work with Marlo over Proposition Joe, who they worked with for years. And this is probably what happened, with Marlo later telling the co-op that the price of the brick is going up.

A bit like how he tried to save face at the end of the series by telling the co-op he willingly wanted out of the gangster lifestyle, when he was actually threatened with time behind bars, Marlo putting the price of the brick up may have been because the Greek put his price up.
