Dave Mays made his way to the live studio with his fiancé Brett Jeffries to chop it up about his history as an icon in hip-hop and how he’s recreating his earlier success within the now expanding podcast space.

Mays came up in some unlikely surroundings as he found himself being an aficionado of hip-hop music during the Golden Era of the genre. And while the influence of Black culture stamped the foundation of rap music, Mays was passionate to share in the lifestyle and knowledge of hip-hop, during his time at Harvard University, where he created a hip-hop newsletter for the prestigious Ivy League college, which ultimately turned into the legendary Source Magazine. Focused on building the “Rolling Stone of hip-hop,” Dave’s creation led him to opportunities that cemented his history in not only music but in the culture of hip-hop and the business behind the industry.

Dave helped launch new careers in the hip-hop space with his magazine and award shoes, and music endeavors back in the 90s and early 2000s, and he’s looking to recreate that same impact in the new podcasting space with Breakbeat Media and with the assistance of his fiancé COO Brett. The two have already assisted with the growth of acts like Funny Marco and Don’t Call Me White Girl, are also looking forward to their future projects with Daily Cannon host Nick.
