This song is about a cool old Tennessee ghost story. I was inspired to write it after seeing the “Bell Witch” play in Adams Tennessee.

Who is this Bell Witch of Adams Tennessee?
She’s always knocking and always mocking me.
Be she this black dog always perusing me?
Is the this dark fog that’s constant lingering?

I’ll never leave until my work’s complete.
When John Bell’s dead I’ll finally sleep.

Did we foolishly settle on sacred land?
An evil spirit’s haunting is at hand.
Oh we shall fear not for tis’ merely a ghost.
It cannot harm us no more than the wind blows.

Just wait and see, someday you will believe.
The wind can kill and so can me.

I’ll never leave until my work’s complete.
When John Bell’s dead I’ll finally sleep.

Oh father wake up, for tis’ another day.
His body’s stiff and cold he’s passed away.
Oh wicked spirit, tell us, was this your work?
We did not intend to disturb your sacred earth.

And now you see, and so you must believe.
I poisoned him and now he sleeps.

Now I can leave, because my work’s complete.
John Bell is dead now I can sleep.
