S1 - E6 - Nieuwoudtville to Durbanville

We woke up to an ice-cold, windy morning at Grasberg with buckets of rain expected for the rest of the day, which meant most of the day was going to be spent indoors. Despite the gloomy forecast, we embraced the opportunity to enjoy the scenery around the cottage and create new memories. Philip got a healthy fire going in the tiny fireplace and we lazed in bed with the luxury of an electric blanket. The local Sheepdog also came for a visit and invited Philip to play some ball. To curb the boredness, we set off for Nieuwoudtville to replenish some stock. The effects of the severe rains were visible with loads of water pools on the roads, which Goat the Jimny really enjoyed. The final day presented a lovely fresh dawn wiith the morning sun waking and birds singing, so we packed up and took a detour, via the Glacial Pavement, just South of Nieuwoudtville. This magnificent piece of history dates back to 300 million years ago and is a must see. The final stretch took us over the magnificent Van Rhyns Pass crossing the border from the Northern Cape into the Western Cape, past Clanwilliam and its amazing dam wall with water rushing down. With the Olifants River in full flood, there was no way to cross the Kriedouw Krans Bridge to take the route home via Kromrivier. This was an amazing trip to be remembered.
