a couple of requests popped up regarding another look at my Ham Radio mobile installation.

The earlier video shows the FT-857 powered via the onboard auxiliary 12v DC socket.
This video shows the same radio now hard wired to the vehicle battery.

To do this, I used some 12 gauge twin cable which should easily handle the higher amperage whilst operating on full power. I kept the inline fuses and fed the new cable through the vehicle bulk head via a rubber grommet.

The vehicle antenna is permanently grounded to the rear door using a clip on mount which tightens on securely with small grub screws. This helps to maintain a good ground which in turn provides low SWR on the HF bands for my full selection of mono band HF antennas.
It is not as important for Air Band and VHF/UHF, a simple mag mount will work well. However, HF and Mag mounts are definitely a no no.
