Police Use Drone to Locate and Apprehend Fleeing Suspect

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – January 3, 2025- Hollister Police attempted to stop a man in the early morning hours who fled and climbed onto the roof of an apartment complex. Police used drones to locate and arrest the suspect.

On January 2, 2025, at about 1:00 am, Officer Provost was on patrol when he noticed a man on a bike in the area of Rajkovich Drive and Fourth Street. The man was riding in violation of vehicle code sections and Officer Provost made an enforcement stop. The man, fled the area and attempted to get away, eventually hiding in the apartment complex located at Miller Road and Fourth Street.

Several other officers and Deputies from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist and set up a perimeter. Officers noticed the man on the roof of one of the buildings. Officer Robledo and Sgt. Solis deployed department drones to safely search the suspected areas where the man may be hiding.

The man was eventually located hiding in a maintenance section of the building with access from the roof. The man was later identified as Luis Felipe Abonce-Ramiez (31). Abonce-Ramirez was found in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia. He also had two warrants for his arrest. He was later booked at the San Benito County Jail and charged for the drug charges, local warrants and resisting arrest.

The Hollister Police Department trained and licensed pilots once again demonstrated the usefulness and benefits to our community of our drone program. They were used to safely conduct searches and aided staff by conducting the searches in a timely manner with mitigating or reducing risks for personnel. We would like to thank the Hollister Fire Department and the San Benito County Sherriff’s Office for their assistance.
