Niger’s military leader Abdourahamane Tchiani has accused France of orchestrating a deadly attack on the capital’s airport.
He claimed the operation was months in the making and directed from Paris, framing it as an attempt to destabilise Niger.
France has strongly denied the allegations, with its military insisting it had no involvement.
ISIL’s Sahel affiliate claimed responsibility for the assault, which reportedly caught Niger’s junta and Russian fighters by surprise.
The airport houses 1,300 tonnes of uranium, which Niger plans to sell to Russia and Iran, sparking legal disputes with French firm Orano.
Tchiani described the attack as part of a broader neo-colonial agenda, tapping into local anger over past French influence.
The situation highlights tensions over Niger’s independence, natural resources, and regional security threats.
