The cinder cone volcano is a perfect vantage point to view the painted dunes. The hike in the Lassen Volcanic National Park leads past beautiful lava fields and up a steep cinder-cone volcano to the top of the crater.
The national park is located in the northern part of California, near Redding. In the north of the park, you will find this beautiful little trail.

The view over the painted dunes is one of the most beautiful things to experience in the park, and we highly recommend a trip if you are looking for things to do while in the park.

The start of the hike is located near Butte Lake Campground (https://maps.app.goo.gl/axeiGdR52ZwSM...) and reachable from route 44. While you can drive through large stretches of the park, this camp-ground is not connected to the main roads.

The cinder cone trail (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/ca...) leads from the parking lot to the top of the cone, providing beautiful views over the painted dunes, down to Snag Lake.

We only got to do a few hikes in the park, but this was one of the best hikes we did in the Lassen Volcanic National Park.
