This run is an homage of sorts to The Retro Challenger. Didn't play this much back in the day because I didn't understand it. Turned out to be better than I remembered. This could also be considered a de facto WR, considering I haven't been able to find any other legit hard mode, US version run of this game online. Also worth noting is that other speedruns of this are on the JP version, which is easier because your attacks do more damage while you receive less damage from enemies.

My review of Super Valis IV:
The best parts of this game are easily the controls and graphics. The controls are very smooth and responsive. It's stimulating battling the various monsters throughout the levels. The game also looks gorgeous at times, especially the anime-inspired cutscenes. Where the game falls flat is the level design, which unfortunately drags the good elements down. The levels and some of the bosses feel amateurishly designed. The early levels are bland and undetailed, while later levels are cruelly unfair with some ridiculous obstacles that are literally impossible to get through without taking damage. Overall, I'd give this game a C+.
