ARK Invest ETF Analysis | What is Cathie Wood Doing In The Stock Market?

Cathie Wood's ARK Invest is a unique investment company that offers actively managed ETFs that you can buy just like any stock market investment.

Across 5 ETFs, ARK is up with a high 136% return year to date.  Their genomics fund (ARKG) is up 174%.  If you had bought these funds a year ago you'd basically be a lottery winner. How are they doing this when most funds can't even beat the broad index? And can we get a piece of that action?

I've dug into their business and investment strategy and I'd like to show you how they've done this and present both the bull case and the bear case.

The 5 ETFs are actively managed, which is rare.  Turnover is high as they scale in and out and rebalance positions

They have two passive index ETF, one that tracks 3D printing companies, and another that focuses on Israeli tech companies.

ARK doesn't want innovation, they want disruption that happens across sectors so you can't capture it looking at companies within a sector. Instead, Cathie Wood and ARK are looking for disruption across many existing sectors and businesses.

Any new tech and the business around it goes through a hype cycle or S curve.  Ark is trying to get in early and ride the curve sweet spot for big gains. This can mean that you need to hold for a long time before you see the explosive growth. It also means you run the risk of total loss if that early tech doesn't make it

Tesla has been responsible for a lot of this growth, and has drive three of these ARK funds to impressive returns.
