Описание к видео Guncaster/Azazel's Second Descent#05︱Battle of the Guncaster

This is the gaming footage of the Doom wad "Azazel’s Second Descent" playing with Doom mod "Guncaster" and other mods combined on GZDoom4.7.1.

Azazel’s Second Descent (ASD) is a one-man megawad by Bloodbath Giraffe. It comprises six 5-map episodes (called Chapters) plus 2 secret maps and 1 Thank You map. This project exclusively uses the CC4 texture pack.

Azazel’s Second Descent contains 6 chapters that feature unique and varied themes. The classic gameplay is interested in making each map hold its unique identity and personality. The themes are “Caves”(Chapter 1), “Red Techbase”(Chapter 2), “Orange Marble”(Chapter 3), “Blood”(Chapter 4), “Nukage”(Chapter 5), and “Lava”(Chapter 6).

When the author (Bloodbath Giraffe) started this project, he had only created and published one map. Bloodbath Giraffe learned through mistakes and lots of trial&error as the project progressed. From changing texture packs a quarter through to scraping the whole blood chapter. This is the most effort and time to put in so far. Azazel’s Second Descent is a passion project in every sense and can be categorized as a slaughter-lite wad with classic gameplay. Azazel’s Second Descent looks and plays like any other classic doom wads but the combat intensity lifted from the early stage. It is slaughter-lite and challenging, so brace yourself for facing waves of ambushes and horde swarming on the maps.


The second part of Chapter 3. Map12's name/title is identical to map07 for some reason. The fortress has so many encounters in the limited room that limits the player to maneuver. The door before entering the last arena fight is somewhat tricky to notice how to open at the first time blind run. The player needs to clear the room and interact with the door first for triggering the remaining mob spawn to fight, then use the two switches at the left and right end side of the room to open the door. It might seem an easy task but somehow it took me about 15 minutes or so to figure it out... lol
Map13 was a nightmare at the very beginning. There are lots of revenants, hell knights, and barons of hell on the left and right cliff that toss fireballs and shoot missiles like crazy, causing the performance issue that makes my fps drop under 30 or so. For the "instant fix", I decided to nuke them at all first at the start. The latter half of the game seems to be ok. Unlike the other maps in Chapter 3, the main fight occurred in outdoor environments. If there's no performance issue, I'd like to fight the legions directly instead of launching the big blast (again, it's just a quick fix).

The spell "Corpseblast" seems to work as an "Apocalypse starter pack". It deals one-time damage per cast and has a decent area of effect. Unlike Apocalypse's instant hit, Corpseblast's red beam has its traveling time and hits a little bit below the center of the crosshair. It could be really handy while dealing with tons of mobs in the early stage of the slaughter wad, it'd be better to upgrade for Apocalypse later for crowd control. Since there are better options for me to fit my fighting style and gun-casting combos, I might give it another shot another day.
