What is Isefa?

Initiation helps to reinforce balanced transformation towards us being in alignment with our destiny. Initiation helps to realign our Ori and head with our true destiny and purpose. To those who are devoted to the teachings of Ifa, they understand that initiation is a normal part of the experience. One may need initiation, to obtain the spiritual support needed to reach their potential in life, One may need initiation to open that part of the Ori (head) that will unlock the individuals hidden talent and skills, one may need initiations to overcome health challenges and attacks by spiritual and physical enemies. Whatever the case maybe.

However, there are two stages to Ifa initiation one is the ”ISEFA” and the other Is “ITEFA”. Isefa can be done without Itefa whereas Itefa cannot be without Isefa. However, most times people go through both process at the same time. The unknown truth is that during Itefa, Isefa is done on the same day and simultaenously with the entire process.

IFA Consecration, 'Isefa' also known as receiving the first hand of Orunmila is received to provide protection, improvement of life circumstances-in essence, to align with one's destiny. The process and its element places you directly under the protection of Olodumare and Orunmila. It puts you on course with God and makes you an official devotee of Ifa. Hand of Ifa (isefa)is a wonderful blessing to begin with in our important journey towards self-discovery.

Receiving hand of Ifa means that you are able to begin a deeper relationship with Ifa and to learning how to pray, and make offerings to your Ifa. Isefa also gives you the opportunity to employ the service of Ifa into your life as your spiritual legal adviser who advises, teaches, protects, solicits for and direct one’s step to live a fulfilled life on the face of the earth in our journey towards “Iwa pele”. In this case you have a spiritual lawyer who is at work on your behalf and through which you can relate with the universe and inadvently communicate with God.

It is a ritual that can be performed when the person is not present there, in the prison or cell, can be done for an unborn child, on the sick bed, or whoever can not afford to do the full initiation (itefa) at that time. Although your Oluwo would have to explain/teach you how to make offerings to your ifa for yourself.


What is Itefa?

Itefa is a rigorous spiritual process that is designed to help us take the giant step to self-discovery, the journey to understanding your “Ori” and aligning your Ori with your purpose in life (Destiny).

Although the first stage of initiation; Isefa would bring Ifa’s presence into your life, this second stage would help to restore your spiritual defaults and attain spiritual balance that you had at the point of birth coupled with the fact that you are now equipped with the right information to live life successfully.


The entire process of Itefa which is the complete phase is to take our “Ori” through the hierarchy of Orisha’s who are pivotal to reshaping and restoring our spiritual balance while Ifa solicits for us in the presence of all the major Irunmole’s. Due to Ifa’s involvement, God’s plan over our life would be revealed and the solutions to all of our problems would be revealed in a sacred message spoken God through “Ikin Ifa”. This message is called the “Odu of birth” for it reveals all the details of our existence and the solutions to any of our life challenges.

During Itefa, majority of us do not understand that the process is solely to repair our “Ori” by going to “ Igbo Odu” where you are allowed to listen to God’s word about the essence of your existence,


Ifa made mention of the fact that both parents are our Isese. This gives credence to the fact that Itefa has the capacity to reveal to us a comprehensive analysis of our life even beyond the DNA model.

One of the major essence of going for Itefa is to know whom our Isese/Guardian Angel is which would be revealed by your Odu of birth. Our knowledge of Isese/Guardian angel is pivotal to helping us succeed on our sojourn in life, while living our life to the apex of our potentials.
