This sanctuary is spread over 64 hectares of land. The shadow cast by the Ichamati River flowing past the rows of huge trees is truly extraordinary, and in a word, it is an ideal spot for taking pictures or videos. You will spend a lot of time exploring this huge place.
The forest of Shimul, Shirish, Shishu, Tut, Arjun and bamboo trees covers an area of about 1 sq km. There are about 300 deer, langurs, rabbits in the forest. And there are countless familiar birds in the trees.
The curved course of the Ichamati River surrounds this sanctuary on almost three sides. Entering through the main gate, in the front area there is a garden, a small zoo, staff quarters, children's park and a rest house of the West Bengal Forest Department on the banks of the river. The only way to move around the sanctuary is on foot. Let me tell you here that a large part inside the sanctuary is surrounded by another high fence. That enclosed area is the habitat of deer and langurs, the kingdom of birds. As a result, the animals cannot be approached very close. You have to see it from outside the net.
It takes about 2.5 km to circumambulate the whole area.
Transportation:
Kolkata to Parmadan is 110 km by road. It takes 3 and a half to 4 hours by car.
1. From Sealdah, take the Bangaon local train to Bangaon station. From the station, take a toto to Motiganj bus stand and take a bus bound for Dattafulia for an hour to Naldugari. Get off at Naldugari and take a toto or van to cross the 3 km distance to Parmadan forest.
2. From Sealdah, take the Bangaon local train to Bangaon station. From there, take a toto to Motiganj bus stand and then take a bus or auto to Kalp Bagan in half an hour. From there, take another auto to Parmadan. This time, the distance is a little shorter than the previous one.
3. From Sealdah, take a local train to Chakda. From the station side, take a bus to Sindrani Bazar in 1 to 1.5 hours. From there, take a toto to Parmadan Forest.
4. From Sealdah, take a local train to Ranaghat. From there, take a bus to Ghantkhane Dattafulia or Sindrani or Naldugari. From there, take a toto to Parmadan Forest.
এই অভয়ারণ্যটি ৬৪ হেক্টর জমি জুড়ে অবস্থিত। বিশাল-বিশাল গাছের সারির পাশ দিয়ে বয়ে চলা ইছামতি নদীর উপরে তার ছায়া সত্যিই অসাধারণ, আর এক কথায় ছবি বা ভিডিয়ো করার জন্য আদর্শ স্পট। এই বিশাল বড় জায়গা ঘুরে দেখতে আপনার অনেকটা সময় চলে যাবে।
শিমুল, শিরিষ, শিশু, তুত, অর্জুন ও বাঁশ গাছের জঙ্গল প্রায় ১ বর্গ কিমি এলাকা জুড়ে। জঙ্গলে রয়েছে প্রায় ৩০০ টি হরিণ, লেঙ্গুর, খরগোশ। আর আছে অজস্র চেনা – আচেনা পাখি গাছে গাছে।
ইছামতি নদীর আঁকা বাঁকা গতিপথ প্রায় তিনদিকে ঘিরে রেখেছে এই অভয়ারণ্যকে। মূল গেট দিয়ে ঢুকে সামনের এলাকাটায় বাগান, ছোট্ট চিড়িয়াখানা, স্টাফ কোয়ার্টার, চিলড্রেন’স পার্ক ও নদীর পাড়ে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বন দপ্তরের বিশ্রামাগার। অভয়ারণ্যের ভিতর ঘোরার একমাত্র উপায় পায়ে হেঁটে। এখানে বলে রাখি যে অভয়ারণ্যের ভিতর একটা বড় অংশ আরেকটা উঁচু ফেন্স দিয়ে ঘেরা। সেই ঘেরা জায়গাই হরিণ ও লেঙ্গুরদের বাসস্থান, পাখিদের সাম্রাজ্য। ফলে পশুদের একেবারে কাছে চট করে যাওয়া যায় না। জালের বাইরে থেকে দেখতে হয়।
পুরোটা প্রদক্ষিণ করতে প্রায় ২.৫ কিমি পথ।
যাতায়াতঃ
কলকাতা থেকে পারমাদান সড়ক পথে ১১০ কিমি। গাড়িতে সময় লাগে সাড়ে ৩ থেকে ৪ ঘন্টা।
১। শিয়ালদা থেকে বনগাঁ লোকালে বনগাঁ স্টেশন। স্টেশন থেকে টোটোতে মোতিগঞ্জ বাসস্ট্যান্ডে পৌঁছে দত্তফুলিয়া গামী বাস ধরে ঘন্টাখানেকে নলডুগারি। নলডুগারিতে নেমে টোটো অথবা ভ্যানে ৩ কিমি পথ পেরিয়ে পারমাদান ফরেস্ট।
২। শিয়ালদা থেকে বনগাঁ লোকালে বনগাঁ স্টেশন। সেখান থেকে টোটোতে মোতিগঞ্জ বাসস্ট্যান্ড তারপর বাস বা অটো ধরে আধ ঘন্টায় কলপ বাগান। ওখান থেকে আরেকবার অটো ধরে পারমাদান। আগেরটির তুলনায় এটিতে পথ একটু কম।
৩। শিয়ালদা থেকে লোকাল ট্রেন ধরে চাকদা। স্টেশনের পাশ থেকে বাসে চেপে ১ থেকে ১.৫ ঘন্টায় সিন্দ্রানি বাজার। সেখান থেকে টোটোতে চেপে পারমাদান ফরেস্ট।
৪। শিয়ালদা থেকে লোকাল ট্রেন ধরে রানাঘাট। সেখান থেকে বাসে ঘন্টাখানেকে দত্তফুলিয়া অথবা সিন্দ্রানি অথবা নলডুগারি। সেখান থেকে টোটোতে চেপে পারমাদান ফরেস্ট।
