How do you build relationships with senior stakeholders who don’t know you?

You start somewhere far more effective than their inbox.
You start with the people who work directly for them.

Get curious.
Ask questions.
Invite their direct reports into your meetings or team sessions. Ask them to share a day in their life, their challenges, their priorities. When you understand the pressures around a senior leader, you understand the leader themselves.

Next, make the most of being in the office.
Host short brainstorming sessions.
Create a “lessons we’ve learned” stand-up.
Share insights from the clients you serve, not just from within your own technical area. Expertise is useful, but perspective is what builds connection.

And never underestimate the power of participation.
Celebrate high days and holidays.
Volunteer.
Join a committee, a board, a community group or a social initiative inside the organisation. Choose something you genuinely care about. Show up. Serve. Contribute.

Do it authentically.
Not to be noticed.
Not to perform.

The irony is that when you contribute because you care, you will be noticed anyway.

That is how real relationships with senior stakeholders begin.
