"I believe that in today's meeting we have consecrated the G20, I think that now countries have a more important forum, much more representation, to discuss economic issues and to take decisions about other issues, such as trade. At the meeting during my last speech I mentioned that we still needed to clarify the question of the Doha Round and that it was important that the US treated that issue with a lot of care so everybody could find a quick solution because most of the world countries are working towards the conclusion of the Doha Round."

4. SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazilian President:
"Let me tell you, if you ever go into a negotiation asking for 7, getting 5 - you would have gained more than 50 percent. This is an extraordinary victory, it is not only the quantity, is the demonstration of flexibility by governors of institutions that have always thought nothing had to change in the world."

6. SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazilian President:
"The amazing thing that is going on is that the crisis opened up people's minds. It's like when the Berlin Wall fell I said thank God it had fell because it was going to allow the Left to have freedom to rethink new concepts of democracy, of the role of the state, of the role of the party because before that it seemed everything was written in the Manifesto. That fall of the wall allowed people's mind to open up and think new things. The economic crisis that is troubling the world right now has allowed the people to get their minds fixed and now nobody can say they own the truth."

STORYLINE:
Brazilian President Lula declared on Friday that the G20 has become the forum where the most important decisions will be taken ahead of the G8 or any other meeting.
Lula said he was very happy with the results attained at the Pittsburgh's G20 and said this meeting had established the G20 as the place to take not only political but also economic and trade decisions.
He mentioned the regulation of the financial sector as the main goal reached during the meetings.
The Brazilian president mentioned the Doha Round, the topic he regularly addresses in international forums, as one of the issues which should be treated in the future at the G20.
"I mentioned that we still needed to clarify the question of the Doha Round, and that it was important that the US treated that issue with a lot of care so everybody could find a quick solution because most of the world countries are working towards the conclusion of the Doha Round", he said.
The Doha round aims to increase world trade through a broad compromise that would let developing countries sell more produce to the rich world. In return, the U.S., 27-country European Union and Japan would get new chances for their manufacturers and service providers to enter the emerging markets of Brazil, China and India.
Asked about the negotiations to gain greater voting rights in the IMF and its sister lending institution, the World Bank, Lula said the developing countries had achieved an extraordinary victory obtaining a substantial shift of quotas and shares in favour of emerging markets.
Initially asking for shifting shares from developed powers to emerging ones by 7 per cent in the IMF and 6 per cent in World Bank, they settled for a 5 percent in the IMF and a 3 percent in the World Bank.
