It's Christmas Eve! Time for a completely random song!

This is a piano cover of the song "ULTIMATE ONE - Aristoteles" by WAVE, a fanmade song for the short story "Notes." (usually referred to as "Angel Notes") by Kinoko Nasu of Fate/stay night and Type Moon fame. "Angel Notes" takes place after the death of Gaia, the Earth's spirit, turning the planet into a barren wasteland that has been poisoned by an overabundance of "Grain" (Mana). Only the toughest of humans surivive in this "Land of Steel", and many undergo upgrades just to live normally.

This song serves as the motif of the main antagonists of the story, the Aristoteles or "Ultimate Ones", living embodiments of the planets in the solar system. Each one is a gigantic, immortal, nigh-unkillable creature, with unique and horrifying powers (for example, Type-Jupiter is a shadowy giant that acts a walking gravity well, while Type-Venus is a poisonous plant monster the size of a city). The Ultimate Ones are also immortal as the very concept of death is unknown to them - one must force the concept of death upon them with a "conceptual weapon" to even render them vulnerable to death. There are only a few weapons that can do so, such as the Knight Arms, supernatural blades that tear the earth and sky asunder with their power, or the Black Barrel (wielded by the protagonist, Godo), a gun whose power increases the higher the concentration of "Grain" (AKA mana) in the target (since the Ultimate Ones are made entirely of "Grain", it is instantly fatal to them).

The plot begins several years into the war with the Ultimate Ones; with heavy losses on both sides; humanity has succeeded in killing Types Jupiter and Pluto, and Godo (the protagonist) personally killed Type Venus, but the entire Western Continent was wiped out during the Ultimate Ones' advance. Several years after Type Venus' death, its corpse is proven to be able to sustain life, and a city, Yggdrasil, grows up around it. Godo lives in this city, but one day, he walks into his apartment to find an angel...

I'll leave the rest up to read for yourself, if you want to. It's quite an interesting story. I highly recommend it, especially if you're a Fate/Type-Moon fan in general; it contains the foundation for every setting and story beat seen in Type-Moon works.

I love this song though; it sounds exactly what I thought an epic battle against a terrifying living planet would sound like, being both bombastic, scary, and somehow uplifting all at the same time.

(Note that no one except me will care about: that is not an Ultimate One in the thumbnail; I couldn't find any pictures of them except Type Mercury and Type Venus, who are unusable for...story-based reasons. The man in the picture is Ado Edem, one of the seventy-six Ether Liners, a race of knights created to combat the Ultimate Ones. He's holding his sword, Slash Emperor (one of the Knight Arms), as you can see, it's splitting the Blood Sky of the world to reveal the bright blue sky above.)
