Shortly after the 2009 MLB season ended, the Philadelphia Phillies decided to give the Toronto Blue Jays a call. Philadelphia, coming off back-to-back NL pennants, wanted to stay on top of the MLB world. They wanted to have one of the best pitching staffs ever assembled, one that could rival that of the 1990s Braves. They acquired Roy "Doc" Halladay from Toronto. Toronto, on the flip side, got a trio of catchers.
Shortly after this, the Phillies announced that they had traded Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for a few prospects.
