The European Green Capital year gave Tallinn the opportunity to bring attention to environmental issues, test new green solutions in the city and launch new projects focusing on environment and inclusivity.

Changes and transformation in urban space take time. However, the European Green Capital Year has helped to accelerate the green transition initiatives already underway and has laid the foundations for a number of new approaches. Pilot projects of various size and scale were implemented that accelerated the process of making Tallinn more sustainable.

The year opened the door to innovative green solutions such as interventions in urban spaces, replanting trees and establishing the criteria for environmentally friendly public events.

The projects launched gave the city the opportunity to learn, experiment and discover sustainable solutions that work best and can be developed further.

Through innovation and fostering engagement, Tallinn is on its journey from a green capital to a green global capital.
