A three-member crew stuck aboard the Tiangong space station return on November 14. The original spacecraft was apparently damaged by space debris. The astronauts were scheduled to head back four days after their replacements arrived on November 1, but the Shenzhou-20 craft became unsafe for travel. They returned using the Shenzhou-21. The team Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie has been in orbit since April on a six-month mission. The replacement mission also carried mice for scientific experiments, marking a first in the country’s space programme. China continues to advance its space program, which includes operating its own station and planning a crewed lunar landing by 2030. The Shenzhou-21 mission also delivered mice for research, a first for the program.
