Harmonised governance frameworks in areas such as cybersecurity, internet governance and data privacy are crucial to supporting investment, protecting and empowering citizens, and driving the digital economy. But achieving international cooperation and alignment is a lengthy process, even when the needs are urgent. The opening session of the GSMA Ministerial Programme at MWC25 Barcelona reflected on the successes, challenges and opportunities in global digital policymaking and consider the growing importance of public-private partnership in solving complex global issues.

In a fireside chat during this session, Dr Jakob Granit, Director-General of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Max Cuvellier Giacomelli, Head of Mobile for Development, GSMA, discussed the importance of creating an enabling framework for private sector engagement and maintaining global digital cooperation.
