HYPOTHESIS OF SYSTEMS ORDER TO ADDRESS AMBIGUITY AND RISK IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS

Systems order is complementary to input-output models, machine learning, system identification and other characterizations of large-scale systems. It is particularly useful in technology management and enterprise risk management where there are imprecise knowledge and ambiguity of requirements. Order is among assets, components, projects, policies, etc. Disruptions to order are from innovations, missions, health, environment, information, regulations, obsolescence etc. Cyber security, physical security and resilience to hybrid threats to infrastructure are typical application domains. This talk presents a theory, methods and applications of tracking disruption of system order in the topics of engineering and enterprise resilience and risk management. Applications to be described include economic development, cybersecurity, infrastructure interdependencies, supply chains, transportation, communications, energy, emergency response and water systems.
