Описание к видео Chinese in the Netherlands, Belgium Support on China's Stance on South China Sea Issue

Chinese in the Netherlands and Belgium on Tuesday protested the award on the South China Sea arbitration case initiated by the Philippines and stressed that they support Beijing's stance on the issue.

Dozens of Chinese protested against the arbitration award outside the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague at around 11:00 Tuesday.

"We are very angry about the so-called arbitration award. I think the self-deceiving result will make the situation more complicated and intensify contradictions on foreign affairs, diplomacy, military, public opinion, judiciary, and even civil affairs," said Lu Yajuan, the associate editor-in-chief of the Rotterdam-based AsiaNews.

"Overseas Chinese will, making use of our own advantages and expertise, clarify China’s stance to the people in the countries where we live via our social channels, telling them what really happened," Lu added.

Huang Yue, a Chinese national who has lived in the Netherlands for more than 30 years, said that prior to the 1970s, based on the Treaty of Paris (1898) and the Treaty of Washington (1900) between Spain and the United States, as well as the Convention between the United States and Great Britain, Philippines law had set clear limits for Philippines territory, which did not involve any of China's South China Sea islands and reefs.

"The law stipulates that the western boundary of Philippines territory was 118 degrees east longitude. China’s Huangyan and Xishan islands are located to the west of the 118 degrees east longitude, so the islands have nothing to do with the Philippines. It is a farce that the Philippines has claimed rights at this time. People who have the historical knowledge must know that much outside interference is behind the issue, which is out of various self-interests. So to speak, they must have evil plans," said Huang, the secretary-general of China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification in Netherlands.

"The South China Sea has been China’s inherent territory since ancient times. The arbitration unilaterally initiated by the Philippines regarding on the South China Sea issue, I believe, is a political farce. As a Chinese national in the foreign country, I strongly support the positions of the Chinese government on safeguarding national sovereignty and also support any measure China takes for safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Zhu Hai'an, the president of China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification in Belgium.

The Philippines unilaterally initiated arbitration on disputes over the South China Sea in January 2013. The Chinese government declared the following month that it would neither accept nor participate in the arbitration and has since repeatedly reiterated that position.

The Chinese government on Tuesday refused to recognize the award issued by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague on the South China Sea issue, insisting that the dispute should be settled by bilateral negotiations.
