종묘제례악은 한국 조선왕조의 왕실 사당인 종묘에서 제사를 지낼 때 연주하는 음악으로 노래와 무용이 포함된 의식음악이다. 종묘제례악은 모두 27곡으로 구성되며, 이 중 역대 제왕의 문덕을 찬양하는 〈보태평〉이 11곡, 무공을 찬양하는 〈정대업〉이 11곡이다. 또한 의식무용을 수반하는데, 이 춤을 일무라 한다. 이 말은 ‘줄지어 서서 추는 춤’이라는 뜻이다. 일무는 문덕을 찬양하는 문무와 무공을 찬양하는 무무가 있는데, 종묘제례에서는 문무로 〈보태평지무〉를 추고, 무무로 〈정대업지무〉를 춘다.

Jongmyojeryeak is the ceremonial music and dance performed during ancestral rites at the Jongmyo Shrine, the Joseon Dynasty's royal shrine in Korea. This tradition encompasses a suite of 27 pieces, including "Botaepyeong," which celebrates the moral virtues of past monarchs through 11 of these pieces, and "Jeongdaeeop," which commemorates their military feats in another 11 pieces. Additionally, the ceremony features a ritual dance known as “Ilmu,” translating to "line dance." Within Ilmu, there are dances like "Munmu," performed to the tune of "Botaepyeongji" in honor of virtue, and "Mumu," set to "Jeongdaeeopji," in homage to military valor, integral to the Jongmyo rites.
