The Newtonian theory does not predict gravitational waves. It is predicted first of all by Einstein in his general theory of gravity. The information of the varying gravitational field propagates with finite speed,the speed of light,as a ripple in the fabric of spacetime. These are the gravitational waves. To deal with the problem of gravitational waves,we have to solve Einstein Field Equations for the varying matter distribution. Since Einstein Equations are nonlinear,therefore their solutions are not easy and convenient. To solve Einstein equations we make them linear. After solutions of linear Einstein equations we find the plane wave solutions of the wave equation. From this it is found that the gravitational waves are transverse and traceless. These waves have two polarization states Plus and Cross. The quanta of these waves are gravitons which are spin-2 ,massless particles. These waves are generated by the time varying quadrupole moment of mass distribution,not by the dipole.
