The Story Behind Ophelia | That Art History Girl

Do you know the full story behind Sir John Everett Millais’ Ophelia? It might possibly be the most popular Pre-Raphaelite work from history. A part of the original Henry Tate Gift in 1894, the image depicts Ophelia’s tragic death from Shakespear’s play Hamlet. The work is also the best-known, and favoured, illustration of Ophelia falling into the stream.
