Space tourism company Halo Space conducted the first successful test flight of its balloon, which rose to an altitude of 37 kilometers into the stratosphere.

Madrid-based Halo Space operated the unmanned prototype for 4 hours and 10 minutes and then landed it safely in a designated area.

The company plans to begin commercial flights on the circular capsule attached to the inflatable balloon starting in 2029, and then carry up to 3,000 passengers annually. It will be possible to enjoy the view from a height of 37 kilometers for $200,000.

Last week's test flight went exactly as planned, according to the company's CEO.

In the future, the capsule, designed for eight passengers and one pilot, will be lifted to an altitude of 35-40 km by a huge stratospheric balloon, where it will spend about 2 hours. The huge panoramic windows of the capsule will allow everyone to enjoy the views of our planet, because you do not need training to fly into the stratosphere on the Halo Space capsule. After the capsule will begin a smooth descent, gradually lowering the balloon, and at an altitude of about 8 km will deploy a parachute for a controlled descent to the planned location. The total duration of the flight will be about six hours.


Halo Space claims its capsule will be "the most environmentally friendly way to visit space."


A second test flight is already scheduled for the end of the first half of 2023. On the second flight, HALO Space will test control during descent and landing with a parafoil.
