Balraj Sahni gave Hindi cinema Garam Hawa — one of the most powerful films on the Partition of India. His younger brother — Bhisham Sahni, celebrated author of Tamas — told the Partition story through unforgettable characters, inspired by his own family’s journey from Lahore to India in 1947.

In this rare 1997 interview, recorded 50 years after Independence, (By Rahul Dev, Editor Jansatta ) Bhisham Sahni speaks about:

• Writing Tamas and its iconic TV adaptation by Govind Nihalani.

Restored for Independence Day 2025, this is a window into India’s history, literature, Partition stories, and the legacy of Balraj & Bhisham Sahni.
Ironically, the questions we were struggling with in 1997 still haunt us today — 'Religious Intolerance'.
