Pearl Cleage was the keynote speaker on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the third annual Woodruff Arts Center Educator Conference.

Pearl Cleage is an Atlanta-based playwright and novelist whose plays include "The Nacirema Society" and "Blues for an Alabama Sky".

This poetic keynote calls upon the similarities of educators and theatre artists to "bridge the gap" between older and younger generations when it comes to getting the attention of their respective "audience". Listening "deeply", telling the truth & working hard for what one believes in are Cleage's key takeaways and serve as excellent reminders for audiences young & old.

Cleage was introduced by Chris Moses, Dan Reardon Director of Education & Associate Artistic Director, Education, Alliance Theatre.

Presented by The Woodruff Arts Center, the third annual Educator Conference, June 7-9, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia, featured programming by the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and High Museum of Art.

During the conference, participants explored world-class art and engaged in workshops led by professional teaching artists and fellow educators in order to reflect upon the essential question: How does my practice honor tradition and foster transformation through the arts?
