The Bank of England has increased interest rates yet again, now up to 5%. Rates remain at their highest levels since 2008, and this latest announcement will put further strain on British households, also battling record inflation on food and energy.

It is the thirteenth time the base rate has been raised to try and lower inflation.
Experts had widely predicted the Bank would hike rates again after May’s inflation figure remained the same as in April.

This news reaffirms the possibility that the base rate could hit 6% this year.

This latest move will mean that millions of variable mortgages and borrowing will get again more expensive.
Britain’s chancellor supports this move, adding that this is the only long term way to relieve pressure on families and if we don’t act now, it will be worse later.
