Today the homestuck animated pilot released. Is it any good? Let’s talk about it.

So the 11 minute pilot follows the story of the protagonist john egbert. We get some fun interactions with his friends, he gets into a battle with his dad, and the pilot finishes off with him finally getting the sburb game. Just before the credits roll we see some shots teasing future characters, stories and adventures that will happen later in the show.

Overall i really enjoyed this one. The animation is beautiful, spindleroo nailed the style completely and it’s so pretty to look at. They’ve even managed to retain alot of the easter eggs and details in the background.

The voice acting is top notch, especially Toby fox who plays john egbert, and chris o neill who voices the narrator. They fit all the characters really well.

I also really liked the end sequence, it’s a good way of building hype and teasing views for whats to come.

Unfortunately i don’t think this pilot is without any flaws.

First up this is probably one of the fastest pilots I've ever seen pacing wise. It’s 11 minutes long but it flies in, i think they could’ve slowed things down a little.

It’s also extremely hard to follow along whats happening. I’ve never read homestuck, i have some surface level knowledge about it, but i think for fans who don’t know the source material they’ll watch this and not have a clue what is going on. Which could put them off it.

Overall i loved it, and i hope we get more episodes in the future.
