Murphy and McNeil Trinity

Murphy and McNeil (https://murphyandmcneil.com/#) is an artisan and ecommerce marketplace based out of Flower Mound, TX. I was intrigued by their soaps after seeing a couple of Instagram friends (@reyes_restores and @rjtiller77) raving about it. The company opened their doors in December 2018 offering shaving soap, post shave, bar soap and beard care products along with a buy/sell marketplace. “Murphy and McNeil exists to help fellow shaving enthusiasts, from newcomers to the experienced, to be able to experience all there is to gain from the luxuries provided by traditional shaving and better quality grooming products.” Their products can be purchased direct from their website.

Trinity (Triquetra) is a Celtic symbol with many meanings dependent on culture. In the Celtic culture, when encircled it has come to mean eternity, or unity. The scent is a duplication of the famed Aventus by Creed and features notes of: Bergamot, Apple, Pineapple, Rose, Birch, Jasmine, Patchouli, Musk, Vanilla and Amber. The scent opens with a fruity tone that is friendly before the depth of other notes dry out the scent. This is a masculine and deeply complex scent that is widely enjoyed and very safe while still being bold. This is a scent I would consider a multi occasion user and also a multi-seasonal wear. Strength of scent is light to mid off the container and moves to mid once lathered. Similar scents from wet shaving are: Ariana & Evans Spartacus, Declaration Grooming Sellout, Fine Accoutrements Platinum, Stirling Soap Co. Executive Man and Viking Soaps Ragnar.

Murphy and McNeil’s soap base is a tallow and lanolin offering. The ingredients are listed as: Tallow Beef, Stearic Acid, Water, Coconut Milk, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, Castor Oil, Lanolin, Vegetable Glycerine, Kaolin Clay, Tussah Silk. The soap is toward the softer side of mid and has a very wide hydration tolerance. When dialed in, the lather resembles elmer’s glue with a low structure to the lather but a magnificent sheen. Slickness is excellent in both the primary and residual aspects. Post shave is also excellent, leaving the skin feeling luxurious long after the lather has been rinsed away. This soap base is extremely impressive given the artisan’s newness to the wet shaving community. The resulting ShaveScore for Murphy and McNeil is a 94. Soap bases with similar performance are: Australian Private Reserve and Wholly Kaw (donkey milk).
