VOODOO CHILD INTRO (Jimi Hendrix cover)

This was my first take on guitar that day. (Planning to re-record all of the parts start to finish, everthing in one take. I want to make it better, and get the vocals right. Sorry this one got cut short.) I’ve had to practice for the last two months on all instruments just to be able to do this much… There’s still a lot of room for improvement. Thought it'd be cool to post SOMETHING since it's been a while.

There’s something about that first take. So many times I have been warming up in the studio, when all of a sudden I play something I really like… but the computer wasn’t recording.. and I can’t possibly remember what I just played because I had never played it before. Nobody knows it happened but me.

Also, Just getting a solid take from start to finish. You can't beat that! No need to fake it or use technology to nudge it.. You just nail that shit.

Another thing that happens is being afraid as soon as I know I’m being recorded.. It’s always the best when I forget that I’m being recorded at all.

Instead of putting pressure on yourself to do it in that moment, just start recording right from the jump. That's my plan going forward. Less pressure, more being in the moment.

My girlfriend asked me, “Do you ever record your practice takes??” The answer was an astounding “No..” 😂 I actually couldn’t believe that I never recorded myself practicing.. 15,000 hours and didn’t think to document that part.. 🤦‍♂️ Just within the past couple days I have recorded a couple 30 minute jam sessions with different ideas, mistakes, somewhat awesome moments. Wouldn’t ever be able to do that if I was sitting there trying to get the perfect take.

Like I mentioned, I’ve had to practice for the last 2 months, and there’s still a lot of room to improve. I really love music. If I didn’t, I would have quit long ago. I’m a musician through and through, and always will be. Just wanted to share my thoughts on the “first take” magic.. Or if that’s even a thing. Would love to hear your thoughts as well.

I want to sing, and to keep chopping it up on the drums. (Not just the drum pads..) I want to improve my bass playing, and be a better guitarist. I want to be better at everything. But in order to get better, we have to put on the work. 10,000+ hours I’m trying to see some results but the only way for that to happen is to FOCUS. Put the phone down.

Definitely on my new year/New me ish right now .. 😆 📚.. but I want to keep this going.. It’s really nice to be back posting again. I would love to hear your take on this. Feedback welcomed.

I really miss being a part of this YouTube space. Life has really had way of testing me lately. Finding peace within the music again, and looking to connect with people more. I really want to make a sustainable career from making music, gigs, I guess living the dream. But it's going to take work. Join me on the journey. I hope this inspires you to give something a try.
