4WD test! GWM Tank 500 Hybrid 2024 review: Half the price of Toyota LC300 GR Sport – but is it good?

The 2024 GWM Tank 500 Hybrid means serious business, with the seven-seat 4WD wagon having the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series firmly in its proverbial sights. The Chinese newcomer kicks off from $66,490 drive-away, which makes it about half the price of the Japanese juggernaut's GR Sport flagship.

Yep, when it comes to value for money, there's no denying the Tank 500 Hybrid is going for the jugular, with key features including a 14.6-inch touchscreen multimedia system, full-time four-wheel drive with high and low range, and a 255kW/648Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol-electric series-parallel hybrid powertrain.
