A serious BMW safety recall has been issued affecting certain BMW Z4 vehicles due to a defect that could cause a vehicle fire, even when the car is parked and turned off.

According to BMW of North America and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the engine starter relay may corrode. Corrosion can cause the relay to overheat and short circuit, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

⚠️ The Risk

If the starter relay corrodes:

The relay may overheat

An electrical short circuit can occur

The vehicle could catch fire

The fire risk exists even when the vehicle is parked and turned off

A fire could start without warning, including while the vehicle is parked in a garage or near buildings.

⚠️ BMW advises owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the repair is completed.

Replace the engine starter

Perform all repairs free of charge
