⚔️ ABU JAHL: THE PHARAOH OF THE UMMAH

Abu Jahl, whose real name was ʿAmr bin Hishām, belonged to the Makhzūm tribe, one of the most powerful clans in Mecca. His father was a wealthy merchant, and Abu Jahl himself was a respected leader, known for his sharp intellect and eloquence. But when Islam emerged, he saw it as a threat to his authority, his family's status, and Mecca's economy.

He was not just a disbeliever—he was the most aggressive enemy of Islam. From the moment Prophet Muḥammad ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam began his mission, Abu Jahl led a brutal campaign against him and his followers.

💔 His Cruelty Knew No Limits
🔸 He tortured Sumayya bint Khayyat, Islam’s first martyr, in an attempt to make her renounce her faith—only to end up killing her in cold blood.
🔸 He ordered severe punishments for any slave who embraced Islam. Bilāl al-Ḥabashī was dragged through the burning desert sands, yet he remained firm, repeating: "Aḥad! Aḥad!"
🔸 He mocked and humiliated the Prophet ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam, even throwing a camel’s stomach on him while he was praying.

📖 THE QUR’AN SPEAKS ABOUT HIM!
Though Abu Jahl’s name is not mentioned explicitly in the Qur’an, many scholars believe that Sūrat al-ʿAlaq (96:9-19) refers to him:

"Have you seen the one who forbids a servant when he prays? Do you think that if he is upon guidance or enjoins righteousness… Nay! If he does not stop, We will drag him by the forelock!"

Despite seeing the truth, he refused to accept it. Why? Because of his arrogance. He knew Islam was right, but his pride prevented him from following it.
