Plot:

In the quaint French town of Vivonne, Jean Leonnec, the son of Mayor Hugo Leonnec, and Marise La Noue, the daughter of a cobbler, share a deep childhood romance that transcends their surroundings. However, their love faces opposition due to the class differences perceived by Jean's disapproving father. Tragedy strikes when Marise's father passes away, leaving her in financial hardship.
