A short history of EDM

The rise of electronic dance music (EDM) began in the 1980s with the emergence of techno and house music in Detroit and Chicago. In the 1990s, EDM gained wider recognition with artists like The Prodigy and Daft Punk. The 2000s saw the rise of superstar DJs and new technology such as digital audio workstations and the internet, which made it easier for artists to produce and distribute music. Festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra drew huge crowds and social media played a significant role in building a community around the genre. Today, EDM is a global phenomenon with new sub-genres and styles constantly emerging and influencing other music genres.
