Cheap Chinese eBay stainless steel metal detecting beach scoop review

I bought a scoop for £40 off eBay to see what it was like. Dimensions as follows:
Width - 195mm (advertised as 195mm)
Depth - 288mm (advertised as 290mm)
Height - 95mm (advertised as 170mm, I measured the scoop only, not the total)
Socket internal diameter - 30mm (not stated in ad)
Socket wall thickness - 1mm (not stated in ad, 1mm is pretty thin so let's see how it lasts)
Steel thickness - 1.5mm (advertised as 2mm)
Hole size - hexagonal, 8.6 x 9.6mm (not stated in ad)
Weight - 1.06kg (not stated in ad)

The handle I am now using is a "Faithfull Hardwood Hod Handle 122cm (48 inch)" - FAI HWHH48. It's a hardwood handle which only required a little bit of shaving and sanding to fit, and only cost £8.

Quality is nowhere near a decent scoop but good enough. The weld around the socket only covers 180 degrees, the welds of the support rods are 1/2 thickness and a bit rough. Welds on the body are good. It was sold as made from 2mm steel, but it's only 1.5mm which is thick enough. Socket wall thickness is only 1mm which is a concern. One of the socket holes is only partially punched so I'll drill that through myself.

It's 1/3 of the price of a top end scoop and it shows. However if you are on a budget it will do the job and seems fairly sturdy. No complaints from me given the price. Once I've bashed it around and done some digging I'll report back.

These all probably come from the same factory so just look for the cheapest one you can find.
