#Dlium West Indian lantana or common lantana or umbelanterna (Lantana camara) is a species of plant in the Verbenaceae, perennial shrub, upright, up to 6 meters high and forms dense thickets, taproot, round, brownish yellow, has root hairs that grow from the main root, woody, branched and thorny stems.
L. camara has leaves opposite, green, ovate, serrated edges and coarse hairs, up to 9 cm long and up to 5 cm wide. Flowers are clustered, arranged in dense spikelets in the leaf axils, white or yellow or red or orange or orange. The fruit is clustered at the end of the stalk, small, round, green and becomes bluish to black when ripe.
This species grows in forests, agricultural areas, riverbanks, grasslands and beaches. Tolerant of various climates, temperatures, rainfall, soil types, humidity and salt.
The roots contain verbascose, ajugose, lanthanose, α, β, theveside, theveiridoside, shanzhiside methyl ester and lanthanolic acid. Leaves contain euphene, triterpene, lactones, lantadene A, B, oleanolic acid, betulic acid and lantabangunic acid. Flowers contain volatile humule oils (sesquiterpene curcumene, safrole), α-terpinene, gamma-terpinene, α- Pinene, β-Pinene and p-cymene.
This plant is used as an antipyretic, antitoxic, analgesic, treating tuberculosis, hemostasis, rheumatism, swelling, bruising, gonorrhea, parotitis, neurodermatitis, skin inflammation, eczema, tinea, boils, bleeding wounds, scalded, insect bites, stomach ache, vaginal discharge.
