A Tongue can be set on fire, by the Holy Spirit, and that will burn the Old Man of flesh. This is the Baptism of Fire.
There is an incredible statement that Jesus makes, in chapter 21 of the book of revelation, saying: “He who overcomes shall inherit all things”. But what does this have to do with our Tongue? Well, we see in Revelation chapter 7, and also 14, that there are a group of people who are following the Lamb to Mount Zion, where they can drink from the river of the water of life. But these people have no deceit in their ‘mouth’ and they are ‘without fault’, just like the Lamb. The book of James tells us that these people do not stumble at word, and they are what he calls the ‘Perfect Man’. The words of their mouth are like the fire that burns the course of nature. But this fire is not kindled by hell but by the Holy Spirit. The tongue of Fire which came on people on the day of Pentecost shows how the Tongue of Fire comes on those who are baptized with the holy spirit. This tongue of Fire which kindles our tongues burns the Old Man. Peter, in his second epistle, describes the same, replacing the Old Man wit the ‘Old Heaven and Earth’. This will cause the ‘New Heaven and Earth’, which is the New Man, to arise, the one that is created in Righteousness. This is where Righteousness dwells.
This is what John the Baptist called Baptism of Spirit and Fire. The Day of Pentecost did not come only in the form of the Baptism of Holy Spirit, but also Tongues of Fire, so that the Baptism of Fire could be done and release man from corruption. Speaking in Tongues is a great advantage the Lord has given us, in overcoming the Old.
