Описание к видео Banshee (Amiga WinUAE 50Hz no commentary)

This is gameplay of the Amiga game Banshee, published by Core Design in 1994. Banshee was released on disk for AGA Amiga's, and on CD-ROM for the CD32 console.

There's a bit of an intro sequence at the beginning of the video. The title screen is at 1 min 32 sec. The first game starts at 2 min 08 sec, where I make it through to the first really big mechanised-boss fight. The second game starts at 17 min 46 sec, and makes it to the second-to-last or last level. (It's been a while since I played it all the way through. I'm having trouble remembering exactly where the end is.) :)

Banshee was well regarded as it was a very playable shoot-em-up in the style of the arcade game 1942 and its sequels, with some retro sci-fi elements added. It was also exceptionally well presented, with graphics and sound that were amongst the best the Amiga would see. (The graphics were often observed to have a Bitmap Brothers style to them.)

It could be played by either one player, or two players simultaneously. Each plane can shoot, and its firepower can be improved in various ways by power-up's that appear when certain enemies are destroyed. The planes also have a limited number of "loops" (much like 1942) which can be emplyed to get out of a tight spot and/or cause some extra damage to an enemy as you pass over them.

The game has quite a few sections to it, separated by boss-fights with some exceptionally large bosses. You start out flying over water, some bridges, then some industrial land areas, followed by a town, then switching to a snowy arctic landscape, giving way to a more arid landscape. Traversing all of these areas can take quite some time. Perhaps 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how long it takes to deal with the boss characters.

This is one of the few Amiga games designed for AGA (256 colours, 2MB ChipRAM) from the start, with large, well animated sprites, detailed expansive landscapes, and good sound effects throughout. The AGA Chipset is also leveraged to good effect to create some effective rain and mist sequences, with the planar graphics used for transparent mist and smoke.
