PNOC DMG / DIPG Informational Webinar May 24, 2022

Описание к видео PNOC DMG / DIPG Informational Webinar May 24, 2022

Over 1000 children die every year following being diagnosed with a specific brain cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)/Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG). These tumors arise in the midline structures of the brain such as the thalamus, pons as well as spinal cord.

Over the last 50 years, outcomes have not improved for children diagnosed with DMGs including DIPG. The mean overall survival for diagnosed children is just 9-12 months. However in recent years, tumor tissue sampling has vastly improved our understanding of the biology of these tumors. It is now clear that DMGs including DIPGs are a heterogeneous group of tumors requiring a personalized therapy approach. Given the heterogeneity on a molecular level of these tumors, a “One size fits all” approach will not improve the outcome for these children.

The DMG-Act group consists of an international and multidisciplinary team of experts across multiple institutions. In this webinar you will hear directly from PNOC's DMG-Act group experts about the current state of research and clinical trials for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)/Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG).

FEATURED SPEAKERS:

Dr. Sabine Mueller Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC) Project Leader; Professor, Neurology UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences.

Dr. Carl Koschmann Joan and David Evans Pediatric Brain Tumor Scholar; Assistant Professor, Pediatric Neuro-Oncology, Chad Carr Pediatric Brain Tumor Center, Michigan Medicine.

The Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC) is an international consortium with centers within the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. We are dedicated to bringing new therapies to children and young adults with brain tumors. Our goal is to improve outcomes by translating the latest findings in brain tumor biology into better treatments for these children.

The PNOC Foundation was founded to support the work of Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC), formed in 2012 at UCSF, to provide access to personalized treatment strategies and ultimately improve overall outcomes for children with brain cancer and tumors. Since its inception, PNOC has pushed beyond older paradigms and historic trial designs, expanding nationally and globally to accelerate clinical trial completion and find cures faster. Through the cooperative open-source network, PNOC is fostering worldwide collaboration with the world’s leading pediatric brain tumor specialists. PNOC has grown from a 7-member group along the West Coast to a global consortium with 43 participating sites, funded largely by philanthropy.
