LAFD: Jump for Your Job!

There are some days in the LAFD Drill Tower that never fade from memory and for many, Jumping for Your Job is one of those days!

The Air Rescue Cushion employed by Your LAFD is similar to ones used in the movie industry. It is an inflatable cushion comprising a large upper cell and a smaller lower cell. Each cell is inflated by a separate blower through an air tube. It is most often deployed on scenes of a person threatening to jump from a bridge, building, tower, etc.

Firefighters need to understand all the different tools and pieces of equipment we use and this is no different. Therefore, each recruit candidate in the Academy is required to jump into the cushion.

For some, it's the best day! For those not as comfortable with heights, it can be a challenge.
