... but President Bush is in no mood to apologize.
BUSH SOT: "And when we find somebody who may have information regarding an -- a potential attack on America, you bet we're going to detain them, and you bet we're going to question them."

And speaking to reporters, he insisted the methods he's authorized have thwarted attacks -- WITHOUT crossing the line.
BUSH SOT: "This government does not torture people. We stick to U.S. law and our international obligations."

However, those published reports say high-value detainees like these were approved for extremely rough treatment -- in a pair of secret memos O-King the use of head-slapping, freezing temperatures and simulated drowning.
Isn't that torture? Human rights advocates think so.

The administration's refused all public comment on the specific methods -- saying such details would tip off Ameria's foes.

But outraged congressional Democrats are demanding the administration turn over the Justice Department memos.

Officials here say the appropriate members of Congress HAVE been briefed on what U.S. interrogators are -- and are NOT -- authorized to do. But given the bipartisan distrust that's built up through repeated clashes over anti-terrorism powers, key lawmakers say briefings aren't enough -- THEY want to see the documents
